Is WiFi connectivity available?

Sort of.

Some devices are WiFi-capable, but most are not. If you need WiFi connectivity instead of cellular, please let us know at the time of order so that we can work with you to ensure it is the right choice.

For those that do have WiFi-capable devices, the rest of this document describes the process for connecting your device to the network.

Specs

The following WiFi settings are required in order to use the QuantAQ sensor:

  • 2.4 GHz capable router
  • Channels 1-11
  • WPA/WPA2 encryption
  • On a broadcast SSID network
  • NOT behind a firewall or enterprise network

Connecting to WiFi

Step 1

Make sure your device is plugged in and put it in listening mode if it is not already - when in listening mode, the RGB LED will be blinking blue. To put the device in listening mode, you must hold down the "S" setup button on the micro-controller until the LED turns to a blinking blue.

Disconnect from your WiFI and connect to the WiFi hotspot created by the micro-controller. It will appear as Photon-XXXX on your network list. Once you've connected to the new network, press Next.

Step 3

Disconnect from your WiFI and connect to the WiFi hotspot created by the micro-controller. It will appear as Photon-XXXX on your network list. Once you've connected to the new network, press Next.

Step 4

Select the network you would like to connect to and enter the password (if needed) in the box at the bottom of the page. Once entered, press Connect.

Step 5

Follow the on-screen instructions in the event that the connection does not succeed. If successful, the device will begin an LED sequence described as breathing cyan. At this point, your device is connected to the internet and good-to-go!
